About Melanie Mueller Mediation
HELPING YOU MOVE FORWARD
Meet Melanie
I am Melanie, a certified Family and Elder Mediator based in Vancouver. With over 14 years of experience in mediation, I bring a family-centred approach grounded in understanding, empathy, and effective communication. When working with families facing separation and divorce, I recognize the emotional and practical complexities families face, and I am deeply committed to helping parents navigate conflict constructively, preserve respectful relationships, and reach agreements that serve the best interests of their children. In addition to family mediation, I also work as an elder mediator, supporting families facing aging-related concerns such as caregiving transitions, changes in health or capacity, shifting family roles, and end-of-life discussions. I strive to ensure that each family member is heard and respected, and to support solutions that honour autonomy, self-determination, and dignity at every stage of life. My journey into mediation began with a legal background. I hold a law degree from Germany and, after moving to Vancouver in 1998, discovered my passion for mediation. I went on to work with the Attorney General as an Accredited Family Justice Counsellor, where I supported separating parents by providing legal information, connecting them with community resources, and helping them develop durable parenting agreements tailored to their evolving family circumstances. After taking time away from my profession to focus on raising my three children and caring for my parents-in-law, I returned to mediation in private practice in early 2025. Over the past year, I have supported many families in identifying unhelpful communication patterns and moving forward with parenting plans that reflect the needs of both parents and children. As of January 2026, I am also certified to offer elder mediation services, including support with estate planning conversations, health-care and caregiving decision-making, and living arrangement considerations. I strongly believe that families benefit from guided conversations that create space for understanding, reduce conflict, and ensure that all voices are heard. I look forward to welcoming you to my practice and exploring how we can address your current concerns and move forward with clarity and confidence.

"Resolution starts with conversation. Mediation empowers you to take control, seek understanding, and discover how to move forward."

My Mission:
Guiding You
Toward Resolution
In my many years of practice I have seen how emotionally and financially draining court proceedings can be, and often not leading to the outcomes you desire.
My role is to facilitate open communication, ensuring that every voice is heard while guiding families toward agreements that are fair, lasting, and in the best interests of everyone involved.
Mediation offers a cost-effective, restorative alternative to court, where you are in control of the outcome.
The Principles That Drive My Mediation
How I Guide the Mediation Process
As your mediator, I am here to facilitate a conversation in which each participant can share their concerns, hopes and wishes for their family.
In elder mediation especially, this process can be preventative with the intention to plan ahead and to minimize any potential future conflict.
For my family mediation clients who may feel caught in present conflict, I often see positive changes when broken communication patterns are identified and through mediation, new more effective ways to communicate can be discovered.
With a small boutique practice like mine, I take pride in the fact that I truly care about the families I work with. Together, we
-
Explore the concerns and dynamics at hand
-
Improve communication and understanding
-
Develop agreements that reflect your needs and priorities.
If the above appeals to you, or you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
